Don’t be afraid to ask questions

He who asks a question remains a fool for five minutes. He who does not ask remains a fool forever.”

The quote from the Chinese Proverbs that I have been living with me, every time I attend an interview.

You might think that once you get an invite for a job interview, you are the only one to be asked – which is the wrong way to look at it. Always bear in mind that interviewers are also expecting questions coming from you. Hence, you need to also ask them questions related to the job and related to the work environment. We know job interviews can really be intimidating but, what we want for you to always remember is that a job interview is a two-way street. The interviewers are not the only ones expected to ask questions, often they are expecting you to show initiative and ask about the role and the environment.

While others have all the courage to ask, some are also reluctant to ask questions. According to my research, the top reason why people are reluctant to ask question is because of fear – fear of committing mistakes by not asking the right question. This is why I have created a short list of reasons as to why you should never be too afraid to ask questions:

  1. It shows your interest in the job

Most of the employers would like to have someone join their company because of their desire to learn and their interest in the job.

  1. Don’t be embarrassed to not know something

Let’s face it, no one knows everything – even the internet is not always right. So, never be afraid to admit that you don’t know everything too.

  1. Your question can start a discussion

It is always nice to know that you are able to talk to your employer because of your questions. I mean, who wouldn’t want to interview someone who asks questions, right?

  1. You are not the only one who has a question

Mind you, even your employers ask you, right? So come to think of it, he asks you – you ask him too. So, it’s just fair and square.

If You Don’t Ask, You Will Never Know The Answer

  1. It’s as simple as that

You wouldn’t want to regret asking that question all day long.

Always remember that you sometimes need to rely on the knowledge of the people around you for you to continue to grow. Also, if you ask questions and you get the right answers, it will not only broaden your horizon of knowledge but, also others. So go now and spread the word!
